Maximizing Safety & Information: Minimizing Damage
A Workshop for First Responders and Utility Personnel
The Michigan Public Service Commission, as part of its homeland security efforts, is pleased to announce two workshops designed to bring together energy facility owner/operators and first responder agencies to share information regarding safety and emergency response at energy facilities.
These workshops are designed so that energy facility owners/operators will provide information on distribution and safety information on their energy systems, facilities and fuels. Emphasis will be on points in the energy delivery system where failure requires the intervention of first responders. The emergency management/response community will present information regarding specific response to a disaster as well as more general information regarding steps it takes when an incident occurs. This effort is intended to encourage community and coordinated planning between law enforcement/emergency personnel and interested facility owners/operators of the procedures and policies used.
The Michigan Public Service Commission is sponsoring this workshop as part of its homeland security efforts in conjunction with the energy industry and the emergency management community. Several energy utilities have joined with the MPSC to provide an excellent program designed to provide information pertinent to both the energy industry and the first responder/emergency management communities alike. Emergency managers and first responders will also be speaking in their areas of expertise regarding the basics of incident command as well as specific actions taken in recent disasters.
Take this opportunity to network with your peers and make new contacts within the first responder/emergency management community and the energy industry. Together the energy industry and first responders can protect Michigan's vital energy industry from damage or destruction that could seriously weaken the Michigan's security, economic stability and public safety.
