1. Internet service is available to almost everyone and most consumers have subscribed to an Internet service provider. Consumers who do not subscribe to Internet service providers either do not have computers or connect through other free services, such as school systems. 2. Most of the consumers in this survey use a 56K dial-up modem to access the Internet. Besides using dial-up, cable modem, DSL to access the Internet, some customers access the Internet through Fractional T-1, dedicated lines, fiber, ISDN, Ethernet, DS10 and wireless broadband (1.5Mbps). 3. The number of consumers who use other service providers is greater than those who use a local telephone service provider and/or local cable company. Following is a list of Internet access service providers to consumers besides local telephone and cable service providers: (in alphabetical order)
4. Although most customers would like to spend no additional cost for upgraded/ better Internet service, customers would be willing to pay in the range of $10.00 up to $50.00 for residential use, and up to $500.00 for multiple users for business use. 5. Customers would like to see local Internet service providers improve the speed of access the Internet, give more capacity, reliability, and possibly lower the price. 6. Most customers have requested broadband service from their provider, and their requests are not completely satisfied. 7. Most consumers agree that any Internet service provider should have access to broadband services provided by the telephone or cable company. 8. Most consumers complained that Ameritech provides poor Internet access, customer services, and services that cannot support the traffic. Also, consumers complained that Ameritech is blocking other providers that could provide better service to the customers. 9. Most consumers agree that Michigan needs more competition so home users may not be held hostage because of a limited choice of providers. The presentation of customer suvey(PowerPoint format)
