There
are currently four natural gas Customer Choice programs in effect in Michigan
- a permanent program for Michigan Gas Utilities, Consumers Energy, Michigan
Consolidated Gas Company, and SEMCO Energy Gas Company.
| As of December 2011: 487,096 customers are participating statewide, which represents annualized gas sales of about 92.053 billion cubic feet. |
Michigan's Natural Gas Customer Choice programs are relatively new, starting with
pilot programs in April, 1998. Various other gas transportation programs for large commercial and industrial customers have been in effect since the mid 1980's.
Existing transportation programs provide roughly half of the approximately 900 billion cubic feet total natural gas deliveries in Michigan, of which Customer
Choice is about four percent. For Michigan sales and transportation statistics, see
Michigan gas utility data and
EIA Natural Gas Monthly. For a complete description of transportation programs, see Gas
Utility Transportation Programs - Description and History. |
