LANSING, August 16. The Michigan Public Service Commission
today approved a settlement agreement and authorized Wisconsin Public
Service Corporation to refund $104,839, including interest, to its Michigan
electric customers through a credit on customers' October 2001 electric bills.
The Commission ordered the refund because WPS Corp overcollected from its
Michigan electric customers for its power supply costs between January 1 and
December 31, 2000. Today's order balances actual allowable power supply
costs with revenues collected from its Michigan electric customers during the
12-month period.
WPS Corp Michigan residential customers using 500 kilowatt-hours
(kWh) of electricity per month will see a one-time credit of about $1.91 on
their October 2001 electric bills, based on a credit of $0.00381 per kWh.
Individual customer credits will vary, based on actual customer electric use.
Michigan commercial and industrial customers will also see a one-time credit
on their October 2001 electric bills, based on actual electric use.
MPSC staff and WPS Corp negotiated the settlement agreement.
WPS Corp, headquartered in Green Bay, Wisconsin, provides electric
service to about 8,700 customers in Michigan.
The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Consumer and
Industry Services.
