LANSING, October 11. The Michigan Public Service Commission today granted
TruComm Corporation a license to provide basic local telephone service in Michigan.
TruComm joins over 150 companies that hold a license to provide basic local telephone
service to Michigan customers.
The Commission approved the license because it determined that TruComm
possesses sufficient technical, financial and managerial resources and abilities to provide
basic local telephone service within the geographic area of the license. The Commission
concluded that competition for telephone service can be advantageous to Michigan residents
and that granting approval of this request for license will expand opportunities for
competition. The license is conditioned upon compliance with the Commission's anti-
slamming procedures and number reclamation process. Failure to comply may result in
revocation of the license or other penalties. The Commission noted that any numbers
obtained by the company are a public resource and are not owned by TruComm. License
approval is also conditioned upon the company providing service to customers within a
reasonable time. Failure to do so may result in revocation of the license.
TruComm was granted a license to provide basic local telephone service for
exchanges currently served by Ameritech Michigan. Telephone exchanges and zones are
geographic boundaries that define customer's local calling area. TruComm applied for a
license on July 9, 2001.
TruComm may begin providing basic local telephone service once it has finalized
interconnection arrangements with other telephone service providers and filed approved
tariffs with the Commission. Tariffs will reflect the services it will offer and identify the
telephone exchanges in which it will offer service. Interconnection arrangements allow
customers to place calls to, and receive them from, customers of other local telephone service
providers.
TruComm Corporation is headquartered in Buffalo Grove, Illinios.
The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Consumer and Industry Services.
