LANSING, September 27. The Michigan Public Service Commission today
certified thirty-seven telecommunications carriers as eligible to receive
federal universal service funds to be expended in 2002 consistent with
requirements of the Federal Communications Commission. Federal universal
funds are to be used by eligible providers for high cost, low-income
assistance and rural healthcare funding. Telecommunications carriers are
eligible to receive universal service support if they offer the services
that are supported by federal universal service support mechanisms either
through the use of their own facilities or a combination of their own
facilities and the resale of another carrier's services and they advertise
the availability of such services and the charges for those services.
Today's order certifies the following carriers as eligible to
receive the funds:
