LANSING, September 7. The Michigan Public Service Commission
today approved Ameritech Michigan's application to provide potential
customers with desired service by extending the boundary of its Lansing
Exchange to include a portion of Verizon's Grand Ledge Exchange. The
Commission concluded that approving Ameritech's August 3, 2000
application was in the public interest. Verizon North will continue to offer
service in the Grand Ledge Exchange.
"The Commission welcomes any extension of basic local telephone
service into areas served by competing providers," said Chairman Laura
Chappelle.
Ameritech Michigan is a subsidiary of SBC Communications,
headquartered in San Antonio, Texas.
Verizon is headquartered in New York, New York and provides local
telephone service to about 786,000 Michigan customers.
The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Consumer and
Industry Services.
